Dr. Christopher A. Sims, the Nobel Laureate in Economics in 2011, was invited to give a speech at the Nobel Forum co-held by Asia University (AU) and Economic Daily News on Oct. 26. He talked about the global impacts of extraordinary central bank policies in the US and Europe.

Dr. Sims is currently the John F. Sherrerd 52 University Professor of Economics at Princeton University and the president of the American Economic Association. Together with Thomas Sargent, he received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2011.

Dr. Sims has published numerous important papers in econometrics and macroeconomic theory and policy. He is also a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences.

　Dr. Jeffrey J.P. Tsai stated that the global economic environment is changing rapidly. Under the situation of high rates of unemployment and inflation, people are eagerly seeking thoughtful and rational advices to improve the economy. Therefore, the visit of Dr. Sims would provide a precious opportunity for us to discuss current economic issues.

  Last month, we have met with Dr. Thomas J. Sargent, the co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2011, and Dr. Ferid Murad, the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1998. And this week, we met another Nobel Laureate in Economics in 2011, Dr. Christopher A. Sims. So far, AU has invited nine Nobel Laureates to share their ideas and insights from different disciplines. It is believed that the series of Nobel Forums would broaden students’ horizons and enrich their life experiences.
