      Prof. Huei-Chen Ko is a renowned psychologist who has made extraordinary contributions to talent cultivation, academic research, and professional services. She graduated from the Department of Psychology in National Taiwan University, and further gained a master’s degree in counseling & clinical psychology and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Afterwards, she engaged in post doctoral research and worked as a visiting research fellow at Department of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine. She specialized in the development of bio-psycho-social model of etiology, assessment tools, and new strategies of psychological treatment and prevention for mental disorders of depression, suicide and addiction. She has published over one hundred and forty papers in renowned domestic and international journals, and served as reviewers for a number of journals and projects. She received an Outstanding Research Award from the National Science Foundation and a Special Contributions Award for the prevention of drug abuse from the Executive Yuan.
      Professor Ko was a faculty member at the Departments of Psychiatry and Public Health, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University ( NCKU ). She was put in charge of establishing an Institute of Behavioral Medicine, and was later appointed as the first director of the institute. She held the position of standing director of the Chinese Psychological Association (now the Taiwanese Psychological Association), and President of the Taiwan Association of Clinical Psychology; promoted the Licensed Psychologist Law; served as a member of the examination committees for Licensed Psychologist as well as the member of evaluative committees for the Psychiatric institutes and hospitals, and Psychology related departments Programs. She has been dedicating herself to talent cultivation, professional application and quality enhancement.
      She was formerly the Dean of Student Affairs at NCKU and showed her outstanding performances in leadership. Later, she was appointed as the Administrative Director for the Student Affairs Committee, Ministry of Education. She implemented numerous policies, including Innovation of college student affairs and counseling, Service Learning, Positive Parenting, and strengthening manpower of counseling in the middle and elementary schools, creating new models for student counseling. Over the years, she has also assisted with school affairs evaluations in universities and colleges. She received a Special Contribution Award for the Ministry of Education’s Youth Counseling Project, an Outstanding Educator Award from the R.O.C. Education Society and was recognized by the Ministry of Education as an outstanding civil servant.
Professor Ko’s philosophy of life is to be thankful for each experience she is encountering, and view it as processes of learning and growth; to embrace each difficulty in life, and take it as a challenge and opportunity for innovation; to joyfully accept setbacks, willingly sustain pressure, and gradually realize the dreams of contributing to human welfare.
