AU and Drexel University in the USA Discuss Cooperation of Dual-Degree Programs---

Drexel University exchanged views with AU on dual degrees, and is interested in the “Continuous-Line Program” of cultivating high-school students to go abroad for dual degrees.

Asia University (AU) and the famous Drexel University in Pennsylvania, USA, negotiated the details of cooperation through an online meeting on July 27, including research, teaching, dual degrees, and exchanging teachers and students. The two parties agreed to sign a cooperation agreement as soon as possible.

The team of Drexel University visiting AU was headed by Dr. Rogelio Miñana, Dean of International Affairs, and the participants in the meeting included Dr. Yi Deng, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics; Dr. Ellen Bass, Interim Senior Associate Dean for Research and Professor of the Information Science; Dr. Adam Zahn, Director of the Office of Global Engagement; and Dr. Marcia Henisz, Senior Director of International Health, Safety and Security Affairs at Drexel University.

The AU team joining the meeting was headed by Prof. Ying-Huei Chen, Dean of the International College, and the participants included Prof. Shin-Da Lee, Dean of the College of Medical and Health Science; Prof. Chun-Wei R. Lin, Dean of the College of Management; Prof. Yuan-Zone Lee, Dean of the College of Creative Design; Prof. Yao-Nan Lien, Dean of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering; Prof. Wen-Thong Chang, Associate Dean of the College of Information and Electrical Engineering; Prof. Kun-Liang Chuang, Associate Dean of the International College; and Hui-Jie You, Assistant of International College.

Dean Chen introduced the international linkages of AU and the R&D of medicine combined with science and technology, and the deans of the colleges also introduced the features and development status of their respective colleges.

Dean Rogelio Miñana introduced the development directions of Drexel University, including advanced exploration (“Experiential”), innovative technology transfer (“Translational”) and internationalization (“Global”). Dean Chen stated that these three aspects are in line with the educational goals of AU. In addition, AU and Drexel University exchanged opinions on artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and other related research in the College of Information and Electrical Engineering, and seek collaborative research topics.

Dr. Yi Deng, Dean of the College of Computing and Informatics at Drexel University, is interested in the “Continuous-Line Program” of dual degrees for the students. In detail, for the training of outstanding high-school students cultivated at AU in a pre-college program, the students study at AU for two years, and then go abroad to study at four well-known universities for two years. Furthermore, AU also welcomes Drexel University to join this talent cultivation program and expand the options for outstanding high-school students to study at foreign universities.

Dean Chen also introduced the exchange plan of English Medium Instruction (EMI), and Dr. Adam Zahn, Director of the Office of Global Engagement at Drexel University, said that these activities are in line with the Drexel University’s “Global Classroom” and the school will actively encourage students to participate in the exchange program.

AU and Drexel University agreed to have an in-depth discussion on the details of the cooperation before mid-August, and after proposing specific and feasible cooperation plans, the two parties would invite the presidents of both universities to sign a cooperation agreement.
