The 2026 Best Global Universities Rankings evaluated 2,251 universities across 104 countries, with 9 Taiwanese universities making the global top 1,000 list. Asia University and China Medical University—both members of the Central Taiwan University Alliance (CUCA)—achieved outstanding results. China Medical University ranked 314th globally, 2nd in Taiwan, and 1st among private universities. Asia University ranked just behind CMU among Taiwan's private universities.
In an interview, Dr. LaMont Jones, Education Editor at U.S. News & World Report, stated that the rankings serve as a valuable benchmark for students considering international education and seeking institutions with strong global research influence. The ranking aims to identify universities with global recognition and cross-national academic excellence—institutions that can help shape students’ future careers. Taiwan’s Ministry of Education also includes this ranking in its list of top global universities.
Dr. Chang-Hai Tsai, Chairman of AU and CMU, encouraged both AU and CMU to continue pursuing internationalization. He emphasized that the U.S. News ranking is a key global indicator, and the universities’ impressive performance affirms their international impact and educational quality.
Asia University President Jeffrey J. P. Tsai highlighted that, although AU is just 24 years old, it has made consistent progress in four major global university rankings over the past 11 years: U.S. News & World Report, Times Higher Education (THE), Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and QS World University Rankings. AU has excelled in both general academic performance and specific disciplines. Beyond academics, AU also focuses on equipping students with AI-driven interdisciplinary skills and workplace competitiveness, ensuring a smooth transition from graduation to employment—factors that have driven its continued rise in global rankings.
U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings on factors such as global and regional research reputation, academic research performance, and covers 51 subject areas. Asia University stood out in AI, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science. The university also debuted in the regional research reputation for social sciences and public health. President Tsai remarked that AU has actively advanced its AI initiatives, established an AI talent training hub, and integrated smart healthcare and health industry development—efforts that are now gaining international recognition.
