Asia University, Taiwan has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by receiving two prestigious honors at the 2024 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA)—the “Outstanding University for Sustainability Award” and the “Bronze Award for Sustainability Reporting” in the university category. This marks the second consecutive year that AU has received dual awards from TCSA. Dean of Student Affairs and Vice Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Shao-Liang Chang, attended the award ceremony on behalf of the university and noted that the recognition reflects Asia University’s continued achievements in sustainability development.

AU President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai emphasized that the university has long been dedicated to advancing sustainability education and implementation. Over the past year, AU successfully executed three Ministry of Education-funded University Social Responsibility (USR) flagship projects, focusing on health and well-being, food safety, and AI applications. In addition, AU supported three grassroots USR initiatives within the university, empowering faculty and students to explore innovative sustainability solutions. This year’s dual TCSA recognition further motivates AU to deepen its commitment to environmental and social responsibility, creating broader positive impact through concrete actions.

Organized for the past 16 years by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), the TCSA Awards recognize corporations and universities for their outstanding performance in sustainability, ESG, and alignment with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Chang noted that receiving TCSA dual awards for two consecutive years showcases AU’s continuous innovation and progress in sustainability. By the end of this year, AU will participate in the STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) framework developed by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The university will assess its contributions in four major areas: teaching and research, campus and public engagement, campus operations, and planning and administration. This effort will further demonstrate AU’s contributions to sustainable development on a global scale.

Looking ahead, Dr. Chang affirmed that Asia University will build on this achievement to further enhance its sustainability strategies, strengthen a culture of sustainability across campus, promote innovative solutions, and expand social impact. The university will continue providing students with interdisciplinary learning opportunities to cultivate future leaders equipped with both professional expertise and a strong sustainability mindset. Through education and action, Asia University aims to make meaningful contributions to global sustainable development.
