President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai of Asia University led the university's AI team on a visit to the Taipei International Computer Show (COMPUTEX 2024) AMD exhibition center on June 3rd. AMD donated equipment to Asia University last year, establishing the "AMD Logic and Computation Laboratory" to assist in cultivating AI talents and research projects. The Asia University team presented progress on joint research projects and the current status of laboratory teaching to the AMD team at the exhibition.

At the same time, AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su announced collaboration with local partners in Taiwan at the computer show, aiming to push the boundaries in AI and high-performance computing in the education sector. President Tsai stated that Asia University deeply appreciates AMD's support in fostering AI talent over the past year.

President Tsai led the AI team to visit AMD in the United States in January last year, where they met with AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su and awarded her an honorary doctorate from Asia University. The two parties discussed collaborative research projects, leading to AMD donating various research and teaching equipment to Asia University and establishing the "AMD Logic and Computation Laboratory." The Asia University AI team has been utilizing the laboratory for research and development across seven projects.

AMD attendees included Senior Vice President David Wang, Software Department Manager and University Project Leader Hugo Andrade, Senior Vice President of the Taiwan Office Ken Lin, Senior Business Manager Wei-Chiao Huang, and Senior Technical Consultant Simon Chang.

President Tsai noted that Asia University has already incorporated the equipment from the "AMD Logic and Computation Laboratory" into relevant teaching, including logic design, digital system design, embedded systems, generative AI, and student graduation projects. In the future, Asia University will continue its collaboration with AMD, utilizing these facilities to train students in both theoretical and practical aspects of AI-related disciplines.

President Jeffrey J.P. Tsai also mentioned that both parties are exploring cooperation in the field of smart healthcare, utilizing AI to develop medical research beneficial to humanity, and enhancing the integration of academia and industry.
